Dresden

Last year, in the Autumn, my sister and my parents came to visit us. We tried to use our time together as best as we could, visiting not only Prague, but other cities as well. We went on a one-day trip to Dresden, in Germany, as it's only 2h away by train from Prague. The centre of Dresden is not too big but it has so many historic buildings and it's so architectonically rich that it's easy to get lost in it. I had been to Dresden before, always for working during my Ph.D., and it was really nice to visit it again with my family.

The art Galleries are an impressive sight, with its arches surrounding a magnificent garden, always very well taken care. Visitors may not only walk around in the garden but also on top of the galleries, on the first floor, enjoying a view of the river and the city.

Krnov and Petrovice

Last summer, we went to the Czech countryside for a couple of days. We stayed one night in the suburbs of Zrno and enjoyed our time visiting this peaceful part of Czech Republic.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to live in one of these countryside houses, and go to the garden to get vegetables for the salad? I grew up like that and sometimes I miss it. Let's say my 5 vases of herbs are not exactly the same.

We also went across the border, to Poland (where I lived for 3 years), and we ate something else I miss... Pierogi!! These meat or potato/onion or cabbage filled dumplings are a very traditional Polish dish and it's delicious! My favourite are the ones filled with potato and onion, served with sour cream and caramelised onions on top.

Medis Corrida Marginal Douro

In Portugal, running has become more and more popular in the last few years and now it's a sport not only for professionals but also for many many amateurs. Nowadays, there's probably races every weekend and we found one near Porto during our stay. It was a 10 Km race with a beautiful course sometimes near the sea, sometimes near the Douro river. I haven't run a 10K race in more than a year and I had no idea how fast I could be. I knew that my training for the half marathons was going to help, but would I beat my record? Half marathon are ran slower and I didn't know how much exactly I could push my legs regarding speed.

Passado o stress inicial consegui esquecer o assunto e correr.

Half an hour before the race I understood that there was no place to store our stuff, the organisers had forgot to plan that part. I got quite worried during the 20 minutes I spent back and forth trying to find someone to keep my backpack. What kind of race doesn't have a place to leave the bags, sweaters and so on of the runners? Usually is just a tent and we leave things on the floor with our race number on them. As simple as that! I ended up leaving my backpack in one of the tents of the sponsors that were kind enough to help me. After all this stress I managed to forget about it and focus on running.

Roupa a secar mesmo lado da corrida / Clothes drying right next to the race

I ran as fast as I could, but always trying to not reach my most tired state. I felt the run was worth it early on when I heard a lady from the public saying "Portugal has great female athletes, look at this girl running among the men!". I looked around me and I could only spot another woman far in the front, and far in the back. I ran the last 3Km besides a man, that somehow without saying anything, just looking at me, supported me (I can't really explain this, but he made me not break my rhythm even though I was quite tired).

Vila Nova de Gaia, 10.4 Km, 49min22s
(10 Km at 47min50s)

Continua estás no Top 10!!!". Eu???

Then suddenly I was running the last 100m, when I heard a guy from the staff shouting "Great! Keep going you are in the top 10!!!". What? Me??? I couldn't believe it! When I saw the results I saw I was the 10th female crossing the goal, in about 315 women!! I beat my record in more than 2 minutes! I don't think I'm that good, I think I was lucky to have ran a small race with few professional women. But I don't care! I was 10th in a race and it's better to celebrate now because it might never happen again!

On Instagram #2

I just returned from a wonderful 10 day vacation in Portugal. I went there for my sister's graduation in Porto and then stayed a few more days enjoying ourselves. I will write more about my trip but for now I'll post some pictures I uploaded on Instagram during my vacation.

Our vacation started with a concert of Expensive Soul, one of my favourite portuguese bands.

We also went on a cruise in the Douro river, from Porto to Peso da Regua, a beautiful wine region.

Afterwards, we went back to Porto, but instead of staying in the centre we rented an apartment near the sea and the Douro river mouth. We could sleep to the sound of the waves and wake up with an amazing view!

Good morning and have a great Saturday :)

It was an amazing week and we already miss Portugal, its wines, its pastries, and its beautiful sunshine!
