Bamberg #2

Escrevi sobre Bamberg não há muito tempo (aqui) e no final desse post disse que ia ter a sorte de lá voltar em breve. Bamberg não fica muito longe de Kloster Banz e como é só lá que posso beber a minha cerveja preferida fizemos questão de passar em Bamberg meio dia. Não vimos nada de muito novo, mas continua a ser uma cidadezinha simpática e bonita.

I wrote about Bamberg not long ago (post here) and at the end of that post I mentioned that I was lucky enough to be able to go back soon. Bamberg is not far from Kloster Banz, and since my favourite beer comes from there we had to spend sometime there. We only stayed half a day, we didn't see anything new, and my opinion remains: Bamberg is still a nice beautiful town.  

Provei pela primeira vez espargos brancos (sem ser de lata) e adorei! O modo de cultivo é semelhante aos espargos verdes, mas os brancos crescem debaixo da terra, daí serem brancos. Como são mais difíceis de cultivar também são bem mais caros, mas vale a pena experimentar!

I tried, for the first time, white asparagus (fresh, not canned) and I loved it! They are cultivated in a similar way to green asparagus, although they grow buried in the soil and that's why they have no colour. Since it's harder to grow white asparagus than green, the white ones are quite more expensive, although it is totally worth it to try!

Coburg - Germany

Depois da conferência em Kloster Banz fomos passear até Coburgo, uma cidade com uma fortaleza medieval que fica naquela área. A cidade em si é típicamente alemã, tanto nas suas construções como nos hábitos (gelatarias em todos os cantos, roulotes de cachorros quentes e jardins de cerveja). A fortaleza medieval, reconstruída no século XIX, tem muralhas triplas é um monumento lindíssimo. Consta ainda que Martin Luther viveu naquela fortaleza em 1530.

After the conference in Kloster Banz, we went to Coburg, a small city with a medieval fortress, in the same area. The city itself is typically German, both in its architecture and in its habits (ice cream shops in every corner, hot dog roulotes and beer gardens). The medieval fortress was mostly rebuilt in the 19th century. It has three lines of walls and it's a beautiful monument. It is also said that Martin Luther lived in this fortress in 1530.

Dirty Dancing no casamento da Telma e do Marco

Lembram-se da minha amiga de infância à qual fui ao casamento em Junho passado? Ela e o noivo ensaiaram muito bem a sua primeira dança e recriaram a cena mais famosa do filme Dirty Dancing. A dança foi um sucesso, como só podia, pois além de o noivo ser um grande desportista e a noiva uma ex-campeã nacional de ginástica, a cumplicidade entre os dois foi evidente em cada momento do casamento. O video da dança tornou-se viral em Portugal e eu decidi partilha-lo aqui também. 

É ou não é fantástico???

Do you remember my childhood friend, who got married last June? She and the groom reharsed very well their first dance and recreated the most famous scene of the movie Dirty Dancing. That was one of the highlights of their wedding and it was a great success. But of course it was! He is a great sportsman and she is an former gymnastics champion. Besides that their connection was obvious in every moment of their wedding, including their first dance. The video of their first dance ended up going viral in Portugal and I decided to share it here with you as well. Check it out!

Staffelberg to Vierzehnheiligen

Na conferência em Kloster Banz estava incluída uma excursão a pé, começando em Staffelberg e terminando na Basílica de Vierzehnheiligen. Estava um dia lindo, com um sol quente e brilhante e um céu azul maravilhoso. 

In the program of the conference at Kloster Banz was included a hike excursion, starting at Staffelberg and finishing at Vierzehnheiligen Basilica. It was a beautiful day, the sun was warm and shiny and the sky was coloured by a fantastic blue.

Vierzehnheiligen Basilica

A Basilica de Vierzehnheiligen é linda, por dentro e por fora, apesar de estar em reconstrução no exterior. Tivemos uma visita guiada pelo interior da basilica, que também não está completamente aberto ao publico (normalmente só se pode ver da entrada), mas não eram permitidas fotos.

The Vierzehnheiligen Basilica is beautiful, both in the inside and in the outside, even though its exterior is under construction. We had a guided tour of the inside of the basilica, which is not usually fully open to public access (visitors can only see the interior from the entrance), but photos were not allowed.

Acabamos a tarde com uma cerveja na Trunk, a cervejaria que fica atrás da Basilica. E que cerveja deliciosa!

We ended the afternoon with a beer at the Trunk, the brewery located on the back of the Basilica. And what a delicious beer!

Kloster Banz - Germany

Agora que a temperatura baixou dos 30 ºC e o meu computador não sobre-aquece, já posso voltar aos posts aqui no blog. 

Em Julho tive uma conferência num local fantástico. A conferência era pequena e todos os participantes ficaram alojados num mosteiro, situado no topo do monte, em Kloster Banz, na Alemanha. O mosteiro é um local muito visitado mas o seu interior não é acessível ao publico, o que tornou a nossa estadia ainda mais especial. 

Now that the temperatures dropped below 30 ºC and my computer doesn't overheat anymore, I can return to my blog and show you places I visited in the past months.

In July, I had a conference in an amazing place. It was a small conference and all participants stayed in Kloster Banz, an amazing monastery, located on the top of a hill, in Germany. Kloster Banz is a very popular sight with many visitors, however its interior is not open to the public, which made our stay even more special.

Não há cidades grandes perto de Kloster Banz, o que faz com que seja um local óptimo para correr ou caminhar, atravessando florestas, campos verdes e aldeias. Lichtenfels é a vila mais próxima, situada a cerca de 4 Km de Kloster Banz, onde se encontra também uma das duas estações de comboio mais próximas do mosteiro. 

There are no big cities around Kloster Banz which turns it into a great place to run or hike through forests, green fields and small villages. Lichtenfels is the nearest town, located at about 4 Km from Kloster Banz, where is also located one of the two train stations closer to the monastery. 

Ficamos um dia extra depois da conferência no qual fizemos uma caminhada pelos arredores do mosteiro. A vista é fantástica, como mostram as fotos a seguir.

We stayed an extra day after the conference and we went hiking in the surroundings of the monastery. The views were fantastic, as you can see in the following pictures.
