You got to love Sweden #2 - Goteborg Varvet

Em Gotemburgo, a cidade para onde me vou mudar, é organizada a maior Meia Maratona do mundo (só isso já seria o suficiente para me convencer a mudar para lá). É sempre em Maio e é um evento vivido pela cidade inteira, quer por corredores e não corredores. Milhares de pessoas saem à rua e espalham-se ao longo do percurso para apoiarem os participantes da corrida, ouvir as bandas e aproveitar a atmosfera fantástica que se cria.

Como se isso não fosse suficiente, hoje em dia a semana da corrida é preenchida com outras corridas, para que muitas mais pessoas possam participar. Há corridas para adolescentes e crianças, para pessoas com necessidades especiais, um trail, uma corrida de estafetas e caminhadas para os que preferem andar. Eu corri a meia maratona o ano passado e espero faze-lo de novo para o ano. É um evento muito bem organizado, só assim conseguiriam correr mais de 60.000 pessoas na mesma corrida, e eu recomendo a todos os meus leitores que gostem de correr que participem. Goteborg, the city I will soon move to, hosts the biggest half marathon in the world (for me that alone would be a good reason to move to Sweden). It happens every May and it's an event lived by the entire city, runners or not. Thousands of people go to the streets around the race course to support the runners and enjoy the music and the great atmosphere. 

On top of that, nowadays, the week of the race is full of other smaller races and events, so a lot more people can take part in it. There are races for teenagers, for kids and for intellectual challenged people, a trail race, a relay race and hikes for those who prefer to walk. I ran the half marathon last year and I hope I will do it again next year. It is a very well organised race, otherwise it would be difficult to allow over 60.000 people to run the same race, and I recommend it to all runners. The program for 2016 is below.

Prague bucket list #5 - Franciscan garden

Bem no centro da cidade de Praga, perto da Praça de Vaclav, por entre edifícios altos fica um pequeno jardim - o jardim dos Franciscanos. O jardim tem vista para a igreja de Nossa Senhora das Neves e é um local onde os ruídos da cidade ficam um pouco mais longe. Este foi um outro jardim secreto, também descoberto pelos pais do J., o qual ainda não tínhamos tido oportunidade de visitar.

Right in the center of Prague, near Vaclav square and surrounded by tall buildings is the location of a small garden - the Franciscan Garden. This garden has a view to the church of Our Lady Marie of the Snows and it's a place where the city noises don't reach as much. It is the second secret garden that J.'s parents found in their visit and we hadn't had the time visit it yet. 

You got to love Sweden #1

I have been looking up stuff I will have to do in Sweden when I move (documentation, job search, language classes, etc.). Every time I do it I can't help but compare the procedures with the ones I have been through in all countries I have lived, or the ones I would face back in my home country. It always looks better in Sweden. Today I found this video - simple, clear, concise and welcomy.

Prague bucket list #4 - Wallenstein Garden

No Outono passado os pais do J. estavam de visita e ao caminhar pela parte antiga de Praga encontraram este jardim secreto giríssimo. A porta de entrada é numa rua mais tranquila e está aberta apenas de Abril a Outubro. Tentámos ir lá no Inverno mas estava fechado e assim foi mais um item adicionado à nossa lista de coisas a fazer antes de deixar Praga. Fomos lá no fim de semana passado. Os jardins de Wallenstein são na verdade os jardins do Senado Checo. Os arbustos estão bem tratados, as fontes com repuxos trazem-nos aquele som de água a correr e tudo junto faz com seja um local bonito e agradável para um passeio mais tranquilo.

Last Autumn J.'s parents were visiting us and while walking around in the old town they found this cute secret garden. The door to the garden is in a less crowded street and it's only open from April to October. We tried to go there once, but it was winter and therefore, closed. We added it to our bucket list and we crossed it out last weekend. The Wallenstein Gardens are actually the gardens of the Czech senate. The bushes are well taken care, the fountains add the sound of water and all together it makes a beautiful place to take a more quiet walk. 

No jardim existe uma jaula gigante com mochos no interior. As paredes da jaula por fora estão cobertas de estalactites artificiais que lhe dão um ar interessante e estranho.

There is also a giant cage with owls inside. The walls of the cage on the outside are made of artificial stalactites. It surely makes an interesting view. 

Ládvi - Prague

Esta estação de metro estava sempre cheia de graffitis sem nexo, até que finalmente algo foi feito e a arte de rua tomou conta destas paredes. Os murais estão fantásticos!

This metro stop was always full of non-sense graffiti. Finally, someone decided to to do something about it and street art took over those walls. The murals are awesome!

Prague bucket list #3 - Bohnická vyhlídka

Há alguns meses atrás fomos correr por aí e descobrimos este miradouro, Bohnická vyhlídka, com uma vista soberba sobre o rio Vltava. Nessa altura dissemos que voltaríamos com a maquina fotográfica para registarmos a paisagem. Hoje foi o dia e valeu mesmo muito a pena!

A few months ago we were running and we found this lookout point, Bohnická vyhlídka, with an amazing view over the Vltava river. We told each other we should go back there and bring the camera to take some pictures of the view. We did it today and it was totally worth it!

Prague bucket list #2 - Prague's zoo

O Jardim Zoológico em Prague foi considerado o 4º melhor do mundo pelo Tripadvisor. É enorme com 58 hectares espalhados por uma encosta em Troja. Contém cerca de 4200 animais e 650 espécies diferentes. Nós andamos praticamente por todo o lado e a app no meu telemovel calculou quase 10 Km. Para os que não têm pernas para tanto há outras opções, como o mini comboio que faz um tour pelas partes principais do zoo e um teleférico de cadeiras para subir até ao cimo da encosta. A vista lá em cima, sobre o rio Vltava e o centro de Praga, é magnifica. O melhor de tudo foram os animais, claro! Nós adoramos tirar fotos de animais e de captar as suas expressões em close ups, e a nossa visita ao zoo resultou em mais de 500 fotos. Aqui ficam algumas. 

The Zoo in Prague was considered the fourth best in the world by Tripadvisor. It's huge, 58 hectares spread across a hill in Troja and it hosts about 4200 animals and 650 different species. We walked around basically everywhere and an app in my phone counted almost 10 Km. For those who can't walk so much there are two options to save their legs: a small train that rides around the main exhibitions and a chair lift, similar to the ones you find in ski slopes. The view from the top of the hill is amazing, looking out over the Vltava river and the center of Prague. The best were of course the animals! We really enjoy taking pictures of animals and to capture their expressions in close ups, which resulted in over 500 pictures. Here are some of them.

I also enjoy photographing reptiles, because of their expressions and colours. I know, not everyone enjoys this kind of picture.

Nuremberg, Germany

Depois da conferência em Kloster Banz, aproveitamos e fomos passar o fim de semana a Nuremberg, que fica mais ou menos no caminho para Praga. Nuremberg é uma cidade muito bonita, com a parte mais antiga rodeada por uma muralha e onde passa o rio Pegnitz.

After our conference in Kloster Banz we enjoyed a weekend in Nuremberg, which is kind of on the way to Prague. Nuremberg is a beautiful city, with a city wall surrounding the old town and crossed by the Pegnitz river.

Nesse fim de semana era o festival da cerveja de Nuremberg, com muitos tipos de cerveja diferentes e comida.

That weekend was the beer festival of Nuremberg with a huge variety of breweries, types of beer and food. 

No sentido dos ponteiros do relógio: outras bebidas para além de cerveja, bife de porco no pão com cebola grelhada, vitela no espeto (ou o que sobrou ao fim do dia), as famosas nurembergers, as salsichas brancas típicas da cidade, que são as minhas favoritas. 

Clockwise: other drinks besides beer, pork steak in bread with grilled onions, veal on the bar (or what's left of it), the famous nurembergers, the white sausages typical from the city and my favourite.

Foi certamente um fim de semana bem passado.
It definitely was a lovely weekend.
