Dreams in the cookie jar #6

Peace.

The Sara Way #3

I know running is an activity that relaxes me when I go out for my run of the day and I find myself at the door of the supermarket... No Sara, we are not going grocery shopping, turn around and keep running - I told myself.

I crossed the road, the tram lines and the road again, and later on I turned to a side street, when all I had to do was to go straight all the way. All so absently minded that made me laugh when I realised what I had just done.

Goteborg's Seeding race

Today, me and the usual gang ran a 10 Km race. This was a seeding race for the Goteborg's half marathon, which means that we will be placed in start groups according to the times we got today. Before the race, the boys were not feeling confident because their training hasn't been as good as they would want it to. They also mentioned that I was the one well trained, therefore I should give it all and get a good time. I did. I don't know if I gave it all but I gave a lot and I got to the goal really tired. In the end, we all made it in way better times than expected. Especially the boys, who were not that badly trained after all. OK, I also beat my 10k time in about 2 minutes, and that's pretty cool. I came 110th in a total of 656 women, which I think is really good, since there's a lot of good runners in Sweden.

 Us before the race.

Goteborg, 10 Km, 46m46s

I also got to wear my new training clothes provided by my club in Portugal, CDC Pinheiro. I have running leggings with Portugal written along the leg and a jacket to stay warm before and after the race, apart from the usual yellow top.

Além do top amarelo habitual, claro.

Weekend in the countryside

We spent last weekend in a lovely antique house more or less in the middle of nowhere. This is the same house where my boyfriend spent so many summer days with his family, so it brings him a lot of memories. We spent the weekend away from our phones and internet, making a puzzle, reading, eating and drinking wine. It could hardly have been better!

There was still a lot of snow and we had to shovel some away to make a path. The roads were snow free and I had the chance to go for a long run. Always nice to train in a new place surrounded by snowy forests and lakes.

How hope you had a nice weekend too!

Sara Jump - Bergen

Of course we did a Sara Jump during our crazy hike! And another one in Osøyro.

Bergen, hiking from Fløyen to Ulriken, July 2014

Osøyro, July 2014

Bergen - Osøyro

A short drive south of Bergen takes us to Osøyro, in the Os municipality in Hordaland county. The Osøyro village is located along the western shore of Fusafjorden, another fjord. I added a map below so you all can see just how irregular is the coast line in this region and how the water is always present in the landscape.

It was a nice place to go for a walk. The sun was shinning and we enjoyed ourselves sitting outdoors with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

It was the perfect way to end our trip to Bergen. I wish we could have stayed longer and explore even more this region. We will go back. Norway is our neighbour now after all!

Afinal agora a Noruega é nossa vizinha!

Bergen - Fløyen to Ulriken

Bergen is known as the city of seven mountains. Norwegians love hiking and sports in general and the mountains are full of trails. One of the biggest challenges of Bergen is to hike the seven mountains in the same day. I did propose that to our host while we were there, but it was only to scare him a bit. We only had two full days there and although hiking was in our plans, seven mountains was a little too much. Another factor to be considered was the weather, as it was supposed to rain. During Saturday morning, when the pictures of the previous post were taken, the sky was blue and the sun was shinning. It was so nice that we decided to go up Fløyen, one of the seven mountains. After observing the view over the city we were unsure of what to do and since the weather was still nice we decided to go on a small hike. There are maps showing the trails everywhere and we considered going over to Ulriken, another of the seven mountains, since this is the most popular hike in Norway. Ulriken is visible from Fløyen and it doesn't look that far.

Ulriken é visível do monte Fløyen e a distância parece curta.

Norway is the place to be if you are a nature lover! It's absolutely gorgeous!

The boys enjoying themselves / Os rapazes a apreciarem o passeio

The trail was a mixture of stones, hard soil and grass. Sometimes we had to bounce from stone to stone. It was challenging but very enjoyable for us!

We also took a small break to enjoy the view, and what a view it was!!! I wish I was there right now...
Quem me dera estar lá agora...

After such enjoyable hours we noticed that although we walked all the time the damn mountain was not getting any closer. It was, but way too slowly. The problem was that it looked close in the beginning but the trail was actually not going straight from one mountain to the other, but around a longer way. At certain point the path also became harder, with bigger stones, as shown in the picture below. We still had about 2h to go and since we hadn't planned for such big hike we were not carrying much food (we didn't even have proper clothes or shoes!). We had to content ourselves with some bag of nuts I had. On top of that, we started observing some very dark clouds getting closer. We started hurrying up as much as we could. The blue sky turned into gray and it was threatening to rain at any moment. The whole trail was dry, except for a small puddle, in which, of course, I fell... I got all muddy and wet but I didn't get hurt. I got up immediately and kept walking. When we were maybe about 5 minutes to reach mount Ulriken the sky opened and it started raining. When we actually got to the shelter provided by the cable car station it was pouring like hell. We made it on time and we weren't too wet. I don't have pictures of the dark sky because we didn't waste any more time after we started seeing the clouds.

Aceleramos o passo e continuamos.

It was a great adventure, but the kind that we all enjoyed a lot (especially afterwards!). My favourite moment of that day happened later that evening when we were at home, after a shower and a nice dinner, super exhausted from the hike and all the adrenaline, when our host says "With you two there's never vacation!!!"

Bergen - Norway

Or the post never written... I thought I had written this post long ago and I only understood that only happened in my head when I looked for it and I couldn't find it. Shame on me! Especially, because it was one of the best trips we did in 2014! So, here it goes... Our adventures in Bergen.

Bergen is located in the west coast of Norway and it's the second largest city of the country. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are located on Byfjorden, "the city fjord", and the city is also known as the city of seven mountains. The landscape surrounding the city is breathtaking and the city centre is super cute.

Bergenhus festning, the fortress located close to the harbour of Bergen and its tower Rosenkrantztårnet. One of the most well preserved castles in Norway.

Street market, full of produce from Norway, such as cheese, smoked sausages and a lot of seafood and fish.

The prices in Norway are exorbitant and we ended up eating many times at our hosts's home (I do recall an amazing salmon and spinach pie!). There's also a joke that Norway's most traditional dish is frozen Grandiosa Pizza.

When it comes to the most traditional souvenir from Norway there's no joke... Trolls it is! They come in all sizes and prices and there's something horrendous and sweet at the same time about them.

Our biggest adventure happened in the same day the pictures above were taken. More towards the afternoon. It was an awesome adventure, but I will tell you about it in my next post...
