Lund - Sweden

Lund is a city in southern Sweden widely known for its university. Lund University was established in 1666 and is nowadays one of Scandinavia's largest institutions for education and research. In this way, the city has a large student population and traditions, such as the "nations", a kind of student's fraternity houses. The city itself is cosy and beautiful, especially on a sunny day like the one we got when we visited it.

Lund é uma cidade no zona sul da Suécia, mais conhecida pela sua universidade. A Universidade de Lund foi estabelecida em 1666 e é nos dias de hoje a maior instituição de educação e pesquisa de toda a Escandinávia. Assim sendo, grande parte da população da cidade é composta por estudantes, onde existem também tradições como as "Nations", uma espécie de repúblicas que acolhem os estudantes. A cidade em si é agradável e bonita, especialmente quando visitada num dia solarengo como o que nós tivemos quando lá estivemos.

We only spent a few hours in Lund, because we were actually on our way to Malmö, a nearby city where we would be spending the weekend, but it was a delight. The city is beautiful, the day was warm and nice, we had a nice lunch and we brought home a good collection of photos. What else could we possibly ask for?

Só estivemos em Lund algumas horas, porque na verdade estávamos a caminho de Malmö, uma cidade próxima onde íamos passar o fim de semana, mas valeu a pena a paragem. A cidade é linda, o dia estava óptimo, comemos um bom almoço e ainda trouxemos para casa uma bela colecção de fotos. Que mais poderíamos nós querer?

In the Silves castle courtyard there was a small exhibition of sculptures from all over the world. This one was by favourite, and what a coincidence... it was made by the only Portuguese artist represented there: António da Cunha.

Silves - Portugal

Silves is a small town in the Algarve, built on a hill just above the Arade river, which in the old times connected the city to the Atlantic ocean. On the highest spot of the town sits the Silves Castle, one of the best preserved of the Moorish fortifications in Portugal, built between the 8th or 13th century. Besides the castle, one can also enjoy a walk through the cobble stoned streets with its colourful little houses, visit the Cathedral or buy local ceramics and other souvenirs. A visit to Silves makes the perfect break from the beach, as it is in central Algarve and near a lot of the most popular beaches.

Silves é uma pequena cidade no Algarve, construída no topo de uma colina acima do rio Arade, que antigamente servia para ligar a cidade ao oceano Atlântico. Mesmo no topo está o Castelo de Silves, uma das fortificações árabes mais bem preservadas de Portugal, construído entre os séculos 8 e 13. Além do castelo pode ainda se passear pelas pequenas ruas empedradas com casinhas coloridas, visitar a catedral ou comprar artesanato local, nomeadamente cerâmicas. Uma visita a Silves é o ideal para quebrar a rotina de praia, uma vez que fica relativamente perto das praias mais populares do Algarve.

The castle consists of a fort wall with four towers and crenellated posts. Inside there's a beautiful courtyard, two cisterns and nowadays there's also a cafe. Visitors can walk around the walls, climb up to the top of the towers and enjoy a 360º beautiful view over Silves and the surrounding landscape. In the summer the castle becomes even more popular due to events, such as theater and music concerts, held in its courtyard.

O castelo consiste numa parede fortificada com quatro torres e ameias. Dentro da muralha encontramos um pátio lindo, duas cisternas e nos dias de hoje também existe um café. Os visitantes podem passear pelas muralhas, subir às torres e apreciar uma vista de 360º sobre Silves e a paisagem em volta. No Verão o castelo torna-se ainda mais popular com eventos noturnos no pátio, como teatro e concertos.

Praia da Rocha - Portugal

There's nothing better to unload stress than to spend a few days on the beach, something we hadn't done in a few years. Johan joined me in Portugal and we spent a week taking walks by the sea, playing something on the hard wet sand, enjoying (freezing!) sea baths, reading and eating Portuguese food. The beaches of Algarve, the southern region of Portugal, are beautiful and sandy with its combination of rocky cliffs and a greenish/blueish sea. It can get very crowded in the summer but during spring time there's not so many people and the weather is usually already nice. 

We had a great time!

Não há nada melhor para descarregar stress do que passar uns dias na praia, algo que não fazíamos há anos. O Johan juntou-se a mim em Portugal e passamos uma semana a dar passeios à beira mar, a jogar coisas na areia molhada, a dar mergulhos no mar (gelado!), a ler e a comer comida Portuguesa. As praias do Algarve, a região sul de Portugal, são lindas com a sua combinação de rochas e mar azul esverdeado. As praias são populares e no Verão podem ficar a abarrotar, mas durante a Primavera quase não há ninguém e normalmente o tempo já está bom.
