A E. e o P. vieram-nos visitar a Praga e celebrar o seu primeiro aniversário de casamento!

E. and P. came to Prague to celebrate their first year anniversary as a married couple!

Adoramos receber convidados e se ainda por cima forem cheios de energia e encherem a casa de gargalhadas melhor ainda! As voltas pela cidade foram as do costume e muitas das fotos já tinham sido tiradas e mostradas aqui. Ainda assim, cada vez é diferente e por isso aqui ficam mais umas fotos de Praga.

In Prague weekends are good for... welcoming guests!
We love to have guests, especially if they are full of energy and fill our lives with laughter. The time in the city was spent sightseeing the usual sights, and many of the pictures have been taken before, and were already shown here. However, each time is different, so here are some more photos of Prague.

Náplavka, art and the center

Os chamados mercados de agricultura biológica tornaram-se recentemente muito populares em Praga. Há vários, mais pequenos ou maiores, geralmente ao Sábado, onde se podem encontrar não só ingredientes biológicos mas de tudo um pouco. Um dos meus preferidos é em Náplavka, porque é à beira rio e tem geralmente musica ao vivo. Um bom programa de Sábado é ir até ao mercado e depois caminhar para Norte e encontrar o centro da cidade e/ou os parques, ou para Sul e acabar o passeio em Vysehrad.

Farmer's markets have recently become very popular in Prague. There are several of them, the biggest are usually on Saturdays, and you can find all sort of bio ingredients but other things as well. One of my favourite is at Náplavka, because is on the river bank and it often has live music. A nice Saturday program is to go to the market and from there walk to either the north side and end up in the city center and/or the parks, or to the south and finish the walk in Vysehrad.

Em Dezembro passado, a minha irmã veio-nos visitar e passamos por este mercado. De lá atravessámos o rio e depois caminhámos para Norte. Esse lado do rio é muito artistico com o museu de arte moderna, a parede de John Lennon e muita arte de rua. Aqui ficam algumas fotos do que encontramos. 

Last December, my sister was visiting us and from the market we went across the river and then walked north. That side of the river is very artistic with the modern art museum, John Lennon's wall, and other bits of street art. Here are some pictures of what we found.

Karlštejn

Estava eu na sexta-feira a pensar que neste fim de semana estava sem planos, para além de ver todos os jogos do mundial e de limpar a casa, quando ouço a Rita Rugeroni na Comercial, a dizer que a maioria das pessoas não aproveita bem os fins de semana. "Vá, faça algo diferente neste fim de semana", dizia a Rita. E eu fiz! Falei com o J. e decidimos ir fazer uma caminhada fora da cidade. Procuramos na internet e decidimos ir para a região de Karlštejn. Foram 25 km de natureza, lagos, minas, cascatas e um castelo lindíssimo! Ainda bem que naquele momento estava a ouvir rádio, porque valeu mesmo a pena mudar os planos de fim de semana completamente!

Last Friday, I was thinking of the weekend ahead, and how I would spend my time watching the world cup matches, cleaning the house and not much more, when I listened through the radio someone saying that most people don't take advantage of their weekends. "Come on, do something out of the ordinary this weekend", said the nice voice of Rita Rugeroni. And I did! I talked to J. and we decided to go hiking outside of Prague. We searched where to go online, and we decided to go to Karlštejn. We hiked 25 km of nature, lakes, quarries, waterfalls and a beautiful castle! I'm so glad I was listening to the radio in that moment, because it was really worth it to change my plans for the weekend!

Começamos a caminhada em Karlštejn, uma pequena vila que tem o mesmo nome do seu castelo. O castelo de Karlštejn, de estilo gótico, foi construido em 1348 e fica situado no topo do monte. Quando se chega à estação de comboio não se vê o castelo, e se ninguém soubesse da sua existência, ninguém adivinharia que atravessando aquela pequena vila se iria avistar tamanho monumento! Como o plano incluía muitos quilómetros e as visitas ao interior do castelo só podem ser feitas com guias, decidimos continuar a caminhada e visitar o castelo noutro dia. 

We started our hike in Karlštejn, a small village named after its castle. Karlštejn castle is a beautiful gothic castle founded in 1348, and is located on top of a hill. From the train station it is not visible and if someone wouldn't known of its existence, would hardly guess that after that small village such impressive monument can be seen! Admission to the interior of the castle can only be made with guides, and since we had a lot of kilometers ahead of us, we decided to leave that part for some other day.

Velká Amerika                                                                         Malá Amerika

Velká Amerika, Malá Amerika e Mexiko (America Grande e Pequena e México) são antigas pedreiras de calcário, hoje em dia desactivadas, que com o tempo formaram lagos de cor azulada ou esverdeada. As pedreiras estão ligadas por túneis e ainda se conseguem ver algumas entradas nas paredes. A paisagem em volta é uma mistura de cores.

Velká Amerika, Malá Amerika and Mexiko (Big America, Small America and Mexico) are abandoned old limestone quarries, that have flooded into blue/green lakes. The quarries are connected by tunnels and some entrances to the tunnels are still visible in the huge walls around. The surroundings are very colorful.

Nesta área a paisagem é sempre muito verde, com trilhos que atravessam florestas, prados e ribeiros e muitos passarinhos a cantar.

In this whole area the landscape is very green and the treks go through forests, meadows and streams and we were always surrounded by the beautiful sound of birds.

Ao chegarmos às cascatas eu e o J. comentámos em como este tipo de cascatas nunca mais nos impressionarão da mesma maneira, depois de termos visto tantas cachoeiras no Brasil. 

Getting to these waterfalls, both me and J. commented that waterfalls will never be the same for us after living in Brazil.

Os trilhos são tão antigos que as árvores já cresceram em volta dos ferros usados como "corrimões".
The trails are so old that the trees grew around the "handrails".

Um dos pontos mais giros que visitamos foi no topo de uma montanha, que tinha uma cruz, e de onde se via a pequena aldeia de Svatý Jan pod Skalou (São João debaixo da Pedra). A vista era maravilhosa e o ar enchia-se com os sons da banda filarmonica da aldeia, que estava em festa.

One of the highlights of our hike was to go on top of a mountain, with a cross, and looking over the country side and a small settlement of houses called Svatý Jan pod Skalou (St. John under the Rock). The view was amazing and the air was full of sounds from a small band playing in the valley. 

A caminho da aldeia encontramos esta capelinha. A cruz onde estivemos está no topo direito da foto (mas é melhor irem buscar os óculos!).

On the way down to the village we saw this small chapel. The cross where we were before can be seen on the top right corner of the photo (but get your glasses!).

Com a festa na aldeia havia também um bar improvisado numa garagem, cujo menu foi escrito a giz no portão. No mínimo original e algo que não me surpreenderia se tivesse visto em Portugal!

Since Svatý Jan pod Skalou was having a party, there was an improvised bar in a garage, which menu was written in charcoal on the door. A nice and original idea, that almost felt portuguese!

Ao deixarmos Svatý Jan pod Skalou vimos este sinal, que avisa os condutores do limite de velocidade máximo, mas só para Sábados e Domingos (SO+NE). Suponho que durante a semana a aldeia fique vazia. Depois ainda passamos as aldeias de Hostim e Srbsko, onde apanhamos o comboio de volta para Praga. Foi um dia fantástico!!

When we left Svatý Jan pod Skalou we noticed this sign, adverting drivers for the maximum speed limit but only on Saturdays and Sundays (SO+NE). I suppose there's not so many people there during the week. Afterwards we still crossed the settlement of Hostim and Srbsko, where we took the train back to Prague. It was a great day!!
