Bergen - Norway

Or the post never written... I thought I had written this post long ago and I only understood that only happened in my head when I looked for it and I couldn't find it. Shame on me! Especially, because it was one of the best trips we did in 2014! So, here it goes... Our adventures in Bergen.

Bergen is located in the west coast of Norway and it's the second largest city of the country. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are located on Byfjorden, "the city fjord", and the city is also known as the city of seven mountains. The landscape surrounding the city is breathtaking and the city centre is super cute.

Bryggen, a World Heritage Site - the reconstructed remains of the old quays.
Bryggen, Património Mundial - Antigos cais reconstruídos.

Bergenhus festning, the fortress located close to the harbour of Bergen and its tower Rosenkrantztårnet. One of the most well preserved castles in Norway.

Beautiful gardens near the water and Bergenhus Festning.

View over the city from the top of Fløyen, one of the mountains of Bergen

Fløyen mountain top. On the left hand side of the picture you can spot me and our great host, Johan's brother, who lived in Bergen at the time.

Street market, full of produce from Norway, such as cheese, smoked sausages and a lot of seafood and fish.

The prices in Norway are exorbitant and we ended up eating many times at our hosts's home (I do recall an amazing salmon and spinach pie!). There's also a joke that Norway's most traditional dish is frozen Grandiosa Pizza.

When it comes to the most traditional souvenir from Norway there's no joke... Trolls it is! They come in all sizes and prices and there's something horrendous and sweet at the same time about them.

Our biggest adventure happened in the same day the pictures above were taken. More towards the afternoon. It was an awesome adventure, but I will tell you about it in my next post...

Those prices are steep (I just converted to Australian dlrs), even more expensive than here.

    1. Thanks Sami! Bergen is beautiful. Norway is probably the most expensive country I've been to. Still worth a visit though.
