Prague bucket list #2 - Prague's zoo

O Jardim Zoológico em Prague foi considerado o 4º melhor do mundo pelo Tripadvisor. É enorme com 58 hectares espalhados por uma encosta em Troja. Contém cerca de 4200 animais e 650 espécies diferentes. Nós andamos praticamente por todo o lado e a app no meu telemovel calculou quase 10 Km. Para os que não têm pernas para tanto há outras opções, como o mini comboio que faz um tour pelas partes principais do zoo e um teleférico de cadeiras para subir até ao cimo da encosta. A vista lá em cima, sobre o rio Vltava e o centro de Praga, é magnifica. O melhor de tudo foram os animais, claro! Nós adoramos tirar fotos de animais e de captar as suas expressões em close ups, e a nossa visita ao zoo resultou em mais de 500 fotos. Aqui ficam algumas. 

The Zoo in Prague was considered the fourth best in the world by Tripadvisor. It's huge, 58 hectares spread across a hill in Troja and it hosts about 4200 animals and 650 different species. We walked around basically everywhere and an app in my phone counted almost 10 Km. For those who can't walk so much there are two options to save their legs: a small train that rides around the main exhibitions and a chair lift, similar to the ones you find in ski slopes. The view from the top of the hill is amazing, looking out over the Vltava river and the center of Prague. The best were of course the animals! We really enjoy taking pictures of animals and to capture their expressions in close ups, which resulted in over 500 pictures. Here are some of them.

Adoro fotografar gorilas. São tão expressivos e humanos que impressionam.

I love taking photos of gorillas. They always look very human and their facial expressions are impressive.

Répteis / Reptiles

Também gosto de tirar retratos de répteis, também os acho expressivos e coloridos. Eu sei, são fotos que nem todos apreciam.

I also enjoy photographing reptiles, because of their expressions and colours. I know, not everyone enjoys this kind of picture.

Nuremberg, Germany

Depois da conferência em Kloster Banz, aproveitamos e fomos passar o fim de semana a Nuremberg, que fica mais ou menos no caminho para Praga. Nuremberg é uma cidade muito bonita, com a parte mais antiga rodeada por uma muralha e onde passa o rio Pegnitz.

After our conference in Kloster Banz we enjoyed a weekend in Nuremberg, which is kind of on the way to Prague. Nuremberg is a beautiful city, with a city wall surrounding the old town and crossed by the Pegnitz river.

Nesse fim de semana era o festival da cerveja de Nuremberg, com muitos tipos de cerveja diferentes e comida.

That weekend was the beer festival of Nuremberg with a huge variety of breweries, types of beer and food. 

No sentido dos ponteiros do relógio: outras bebidas para além de cerveja, bife de porco no pão com cebola grelhada, vitela no espeto (ou o que sobrou ao fim do dia), as famosas nurembergers, as salsichas brancas típicas da cidade, que são as minhas favoritas. 

Clockwise: other drinks besides beer, pork steak in bread with grilled onions, veal on the bar (or what's left of it), the famous nurembergers, the white sausages typical from the city and my favourite.

Foi certamente um fim de semana bem passado.
It definitely was a lovely weekend. 

Grand Prix 10K

Last Saturday evening I participated in the most famous 10K race of Prague. I had actually registered for last year, but there was a change of plans and I ended up postponing my registration for this year. As far as I can remember it was my first race in the evening. My sight in the dark is not great, and if it involves a crowd it's even worse, because I just see a lot of shadows dancing in front of my eyes. Still, the race was good and I had fun. In some streets the lights were off (I don't know why as it was quite dark), but most of the time I could see well enough to not care about it.

The course was mostly flat, which is always a plus and I finished the race with my second best time ever. This was my last street race in Prague (at least for now), and I will miss to start the races to the sound of classical music, as they always did here for RunCzech races. It was not my last race in Prague because I will still run a city trail in October, which should be fun and a bit different.

Prague bucket list #1

We have 3 months left in Prague and there's still quite a few things we haven't done yet. Some were recently added to the list, some have always been there but got postponed for different reasons. We will try to go through them all by December. 

Praga é uma cidade com muito para explorar e a 3 meses de nos mudarmos há algumas coisas que ainda queremos fazer. Fizemos uma lista, onde alguns itens foram adicionados recentemente, enquanto outros são coisas que sempre quisemos fazer mas por algum motivo adiamos. 

The first one was an easy one. I heard about Japa, an asian shop in Prague, long time ago. I Don't cook much asian food, but I was curious about it. The shop sells a bit of everything from ceramic dishes and chopsticks, to asian sauces, noodles, rice, tea, alcohol, frozen food, etc. We bought a few sauces and wasabi powder to make wasabi mayonnaise, that we heard it's delicious. I'll let you know when I try it. 

O primeiro item da lista foi fácil. Ouvi falar desta loja de comida asiática, Japa, há muito tempo. Não costumo cozinhar comida asiática frequentemente, mas ainda assim estava curiosa. A loja vende de tudo um pouco desde peças de ceramica e pauzinhos, como molhos asiáticos, noodles, arroz, chá, álcool, congelados, etc. Compramos alguns molhos e wasabi em pó, para fazer maionese de wasabi, que ouvimos recentemente que é muito bom. Depois conto como correu.
